County Seat: Salida Population: 16,708 Location: West Central
Chaffee County is located in central Colorado in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. It is surrounded by numerous "13ers" and "14ers" (mountains with an elevation of 13,000 and 14,000+ feet in elevation), with the continental divide serving as its western border. Salida is the county seat. The county thrives on tourism in the summer months, with whitewater rafting down the Arkansas River as a popular activity.
