Montrose County is located in western Colorado
and reaches the Utah state border line to the west.
The city of Montrose serves as the county seat, and there are 35,971 residents according to the 2000 U.S. Census.
The long and horizontal shape of the county is divided geographically by the Uncompahgre Plateau,
with the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is considered the area's most popular natural attraction.
The towns of Nucla, Naturita, Paradox and Olathe are also within county limits.
