Rio Grande County is located in the San Luis Valley in south central Colorado. Del Norte is the county seat and the towns of South Fork and Monte Vista are within county limits. The north and south forks of the upper Rio Grande meet in South Fork and flow east through the county. The county sits just east of the tranquil mountains of the San Juan and Rio Grande National Forests.
